I work in the Department of Physics Instructional Laboratories at the University of Chicago and am passionate about teaching and science education. Working with both undergraduates and graduate students to grow experimental physics skills, my days are spent developing new curriculum, building apparatus, and working one-on-one with eager young scientists.
When not telling others about the laws of nature, I explore the history, production and flavors of elegant edibles and potent potables as a freelance writer for publications like The Takeout, The A.V. Club and Chicago Foodies. I especially love telling the stories of the makers -- the brewers, distillers, chefs, farmers, and fish mongers -- that create our vibrant, epicurean world. My fridge is always stocked with everything I need for a midnight cheese plate, and my liquor cabinet contains a flask of Laphroaig, an eyedropper of absinthe, and a fresh bottle of sweet vermouth.
I am based in Chicago and interested in bringing the stories of my great city to the world.
